I left the hostel by 7am to do some exploring! I read in my guidebook about the "best bakery in Copenhagen" and it opened quite early, so I figured I needed to fit in as much as possible into my limited time in Copenhagen.
The bakery is called Lagkagehuset which I guess basically means 'layer cake house'.
Apparently the book was right because there were A LOT of people there already! After dumbly standing there for a few minutes trying to figure out where the line was, I realized you had to TAKE A NUMBER to be served. And I was already number 285! (Although of course I can't assume they started at 1 that day).
Well, it was worth the wait to try something from Lagkagehuset. The pastry I got was delicious and I greedily could have eaten several I'm sure.
I think it just says "Spread good cycle karma". There are bikes EVERYWHERE in Copenhagen. It's a little ridiculous but it's a very good thing of course.
It was glorious. There is something mystifying and awe-inspiring about all of these huge churches. I guess that was the point. It was great to have a quiet place to go after the confusion and business of the streets. I am VERY drawn to the symmetry in these churches. Something about the order and organization of the architecture is really comforting to me and also really appeals to me aesthetically.
There's this great statue of Hans Christian Andersen near city hall. I really wanted a good picture of it but there were all of these obviously touristy people there. I snapped this very, very awkward photo (HA HA). I mean, what is she looking at?!?!? ;)
This is the street that the hostel I stayed in was on; as I mentioned before, city hall and Tivoli are also on this street.
At ten that morning, I met John (he was in a previous post; he's Jette and Maung Maung's friend and he VERY kindly offered to show me around Copenhagen!) in the cafe and we planned out our adventures for the day.
