[September 5] Århus, Denmark: Beach, Church, & Taking it Easy

The morning started out with me feeling very, very spoiled YET AGAIN. I am definitely NOT complaining about this at all, however!

Before I was even out of bed (which doesn't say much I suppose), Mgmg had already bought some yummy pastry and rolls. Speaking of rolls, after eating so much yummy food at their house, I'm surprised I didn't have to be rolled onto the airplane when I left...

Afterwards, I went with Jette to the beach so she could take her morning swim in the FREEZING WATER.

These little red things are fruit and there was a pretty bush of them by the water but I saw them growing here and there. You can eat them, but only the thin layer on the outside.

Do you see the little speck in the very center of the photo? That is Jette!!! Oh my goodness! I went in the water up to my knees and I'm pretty sure they went numb. Seriously, the water is even colder than the ocean water at home.

The weather was brilliant. Such a pretty scene.

And that was all before going to church that morning. Jette and I went to a church that is near their house and the oldest part of the church was built in 1100. Crazy! Denmark is a Lutheran country but Uncle remarked that most Danes are 3-time church attendees... birth, marriage, and death.

There were a few christenings that day so there were more people than usual at the service (which still wasn't really that many). I had never seen a christening before.

This is the front of the church. I took communion during the service which was different than I am used to. You had to go to the front of the church and kneel on that little wooden stage and then you take real wine and a little wafer.

The people running the service were all women. The woman minister stood up on that podium thing (I have no idea what to call it) and gave the sermon. I didn't understand anything in the entire service because it was obviously all in Danish. We all sang out of hymnals too, also in Danish, and a woman played an organ.

The church has a very nice graveyard. Most graves were more like little gardens.

Jette's mother's ashes are buried under this grass with many other people. Unless someone told you, you would never know you were walking over so many dead people.

Being stupid:

I love this picture of Jette and Maung Maung. They look so young, don't they?

Don't let the fact that I'm carrying the tray fool you. The delicious spread was thanks to Jette and Mgmg for sure!

We had a picnic outside and it was such a lovely lunch...

Then once again, dinner was very delicious. Homemade spaghetti sauce! *SLURP*!
